Wednesday 26th February 2009
Students at Fleetwood Nautical Campus celebrated their Higher Education success with a ceremony at the Thornton Little Theatre on Wednesday 26th February 2009. Having completed a HND in Nautical Science, the students are preparing to return to sea as Chief Mates.
The graduation ceremony was a huge success and students were thrilled to celebrate the outcome of all their hard work. The ceremony was a memorable day for students, along with their families who thoroughly enjoyed the celebration.
The ceremony began with a procession from the stage party, with Robyn Harrigan, a current Foundation Degree cadet, leading the procession as Flag Bearer. The Chair of Governors opened the ceremony, followed by an address from the Blackpool and The Fylde College Principal, Pauline Waterhouse. The Principal congratulated students on their success and spoke about the long and successful history of the Campus, which dates back to the 19th Century.
Nigel Malpass, a distinguished member of the industry spoke about his long association with the Campus and how proud he is to have been a former student.
Head of Campus, John Matthews, also congratulated students and commented that he hoped to see the students return to the Campus to complete their Masters Orals course in the near future. The ceremony closed with remarks from a new graduate, who thanked the staff for their hard work.
This is the first time the Nautical Campus has held such an event and staff wished all the graduates every success for the future and promised that this will be the first of many successful events.
